BREAKING NEWS: 50 members of Congress press the USDA & EPA to reject 2,4-D tolerant crops. The July 31st letter expresses grave concerns over Dow Chemical's new Enlist Duo™ 2,4-D/glyphosate herbicide and 2,4-D tolerant GE corn & soy. USDA has granted preliminary approval for the crops, while EPA is reviewing the application for more extensive use of 2,4-D. "We believe that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have failed to thoroughly analyze and address the risks of Enlist Duo and the multiple adverse human health, environmental, agronomic, and socioeconomic harms that approval of 2,4-D crops will likely cause." Yes, the EPA and USDA have thoroughly failed us. We agree.

The landmark bill sponsored by Elizabeth Warren would have allowed former students to refinance their loans at existing, lower, rates and would have paid for it by establishing a minimum tax rate for millionaires (also known as the Buffet Rule.)

Note: Sen. Harry Reid (D) of Nevada only voted "no" as a procedural matter so that he can reintroduce the bill later on this session. Also, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D) of Missouri was absent from the vote due to her husband's hospitalization.
