The Los Angeles GMO crop ban had nearly unanimous Council support and was predicted to pass in December. 3 days before a vote was supposed to occur, a biotech trade group sent in their goons. The legislation was derailed as some Councilmembers that previously supported the ban backed out. Those Councilmembers that backed out denied biotech lobbying had anything to do with their decision. “Since nothing else has changed [except biotech lobbying]… it clearly was heavy lobbying,” said Paul Koretz, Los Angeles Councilman and sponsor of the GMO ban legislation.
It's clear biotech industry lobbying was the reason. The question is: Did the industry buy off or bully the politicians?
