Drilling in the Arctic Ocean? Oh Shell No!
Shell recently cleared a hurdle in their effort to drill in the Arctic Ocean, but the fight is far from over. Tell the Department of the Interior to reject Shell’s plan to drill in the Arctic.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Shell is racing to drill in the Arctic Ocean this summer. With a 75% chance of an oil spill and 100% chance of climate disruption, Shell’s plan to drill must be stopped.
Their deplorable track record speaks for itself. In 2012, Shell's attempt at Arctic oil drilling failed dramatically when one of its drilling rigs ran aground off of Kodiak Island, Alaska. The drilling rig's critical oil spill containment dome was "crushed like a beer can" during testing and both of its drilling rigs came under federal investigation.
Instead of inviting an near certain oil spill that cannot be cleaned up, the Obama Administration should focus on developing clean energy and leave dirty fuels in the ground. Allowing Shell to drill in the Arctic Ocean is risky for the climate, our waters, wildlife and the communities that rely on them.
Take action and tell the Department of Interior to reject Shell’s plan to drill in the Arctic Ocean.
