GMO Free USA
USDA allows release of genetically engineered diamondback moths in New York without any press release or public notice. Oxitec, the British company genetically engineering insects, is experimenting on U.S. soil because their own country won't allow them to do it there. “Proposals to release GE moths in England were halted in 2012 amid concerns about the risk assessment. Many issues that would be closely studied before the moths were released in Europe have not yet been considered in the USA,” said Helen Wallace, Director of GeneWatch UK. “Consumers and farmers deserve much better information about GE insects that could end up in the food chain.” The USDA completely ignored public comments against the release of GE moths and are doing what they normally do: throw the public and organic farmers under the bus for GMO companies.
