Burned Alive - Help Stop BP from Torching Endangered Sea Turtles

Endangered sea turtles are being burned alive as part of BP's careless oil spill cleanup efforts.

This is unacceptable. These rare, important turtles are becoming trapped in the oily surface of the Gulf and then torched by cleanup crews in "controlled burns" of corralled oil -- any wildlife caught inside the corral are literally burned alive.

And it's illegal: As protected species under the Endangered Species Act, anyone responsible for killing a Kemp's Ridley sea turtle -- the turtle most affected by the Gulf oil disaster -- is liable for criminal penalties including prison time and civil fines of up to $25,000 for each violation.

As reported in The New York Times, the oil cleanup crew's "so-called burn boxes are torching oil from the water's surface at the sacrifice of turtles, crabs, sea slugs and other sea life."

Take action below right now and send this to all your friends. Tell BP to stop torching endangered sea turtles. The turtles should not be burned alive in the process of cleaning up the oil spill that's already destroying their habitat. We can stop it and get the turtles out of harm’s way with your help.

As for my beliefs......Ceremony is for 'prayer' and ceremony is Free! I have the right to pray as I see fit..and for me a church is just an empty building (except on Sunday)...My God (Creator) is Not Dead and is Everywhere!

I am not a 'christian', I Don't Have to Be! Jesus was Jewish, a Rabbi even, and so were his followers. I do not ever believe what they do nor do I condone their part in the genocide of those in the World that were/are non-christians, that is not what the Creator I believe in stands for.

I believe that we are here to take care of all the living beings on the planet, that we are responsible for life here on Mother Earth as we know it. There is One (1) Creator...We Are ALL Children of 'God'.

There is also something called the First Amendment, it Includes Freedom of Religion, and I choose to believe the Native Teachings (which does not include Hatred that I know of).....>>>

More Petty B.S. Games @ the Library: April 22, 2009

Today is a fine example of the "professionalism" I have to deal with on a daily basis:

We have had a calendar up on the outside wall of a cubicle, which faces 5 other people's desk & for the staff for over NINE [9] Years. This calendar has all the legal holidays marked on it as well as the due dates of our timesheets, reference survey dates, and paydays...etc.

Last week the calendar went missing.....I found it stashed away in the supply closet and put it back up.

It was gone again on Friday and I put it back up....

It was gone again today....and some stupid poster on the Latina Bridal Show (that has received some disparaging remarks) was there instead.....

So I'm looking for the calendar,, and it's on the back wall behind my desk, where no one can see it!

My "acting-manager" tells me..."well he doesn't want it on the wall" To which I respond; "But it's on the Outside of the wall (where he can not see it) and we all use it and it's been there for NINE Years"

She says: "well it's his wall." So, I move the calendar to an adjacent wall, so everyone can still see it.

An hour later I come back......and I notice the Bridal Poster is gone and the wall is blank! Then he starts kissing up and asking for my help with a huge project he's working on!

Just fucking amazing and petty! This passive aggressive game playing has been going on against me since this kid got there. He's 30 yrs old, I'm 54! I have been at this job longer than he has been alive, and I have the same MLIS degree that he has + a CA Teachers' Credential.

So like what is going on here...this isn't the only game he's gone behind me on. Two weeks past he took more than 25 books out of the Mystery collection (that I oversee), ripped off the stickers and added them to the Fiction collection (that he oversees) in order to "bump up the collection". He didn't tell anyone, didn't even ask the "acting manager"...just did it.

One week before that, he tried to hold my budget for Books on CD hostage, and tried to take it over! He was called down on that, and when he came in on Monday...was being really phony sweet...and I called him on it...he apologized and said I was "right" and he had his own funds to spend....etc.

So, I have to go to work everyday and deal with immature, non-professional, passive aggressive, controlling, back-stabbing, women-hating behavior (which is why he was transferred to this library to begin with)! I'm doing all I can to keep my mouth shut....but I'll tell you, I'm praying for him to be happy & far away from me.

What the Hell!!!!????

So I was reading a news site for Librarians today, and I came across an article that reported; 7 male teens & young adults (aged 14 - 20) were arrested for burglary & arson in Maine.

Do you know how & why they were caught? Because they were so FREAKING STUPID!!! And I am not condoning what they did in any way, shape or form.....I'm just pointing out how these kids' lack of intelligence and moral compass got their butts into serious trouble.

How's this for STUPIDITY...they decided to boast about what they did by video taping themselves making, lighting & leaving to burn Molotov cocktails inside of an abandoned Club for Boys & Girls! But, wait, here's the clincher..... They showed their faces in the video, put their names in text in the credits AND...AND Posted the video on YouTube (the video has since been removed from the site).

What the Hell is wrong not only with these kids, but with parents that raised such mentally & morally deficient youngsters? Seriously folks, some people should not be allowed to procreate!

This is when I believe in corporal punishment...not to mention forcing the parents into working on the clean-up & restoration crew of that building as well as making total monetary restitution for damages.

The title of this article, that an embarrassingly high number of Americans believe that the sun revolves around the Earth, is only one point argued by the Washington Post’s Susan Jacoby, in her attempt to prove that Americans are in serious intellectual trouble, facing a virulent mixture of anti-intellectualism, anti-rationalism and low expectations.

What else is signaling that Americans are becoming increasingly dumbed-down as a society?

• Reading -- of books, newspapers and magazines -- is on the decline. A 2007 study even found that 80 percent of American families did not buy or read a book in 2006.
  

• Attention spans are declining; Jacoby suggests this is due to television and videos. For instance, between 1968 and 1988, the average sound bite on the news for a presidential candidate dropped from 42.3 seconds to 9.8 seconds. By 2000, according to a Harvard study, the daily candidate bite was down to just 7.8 seconds.

• General knowledge is eroding. This is evidenced not only by the fact that one in five U.S. adults believe the sun revolves around the Earth, but also many others.

Yet, it’s not bad enough that knowledge is quickly declining in the United States. On top of that, there is an arrogance about this lack of knowledge, almost as if a good portion of the population is saying, “We know we’re ignorant, but we don’t care!”

Consider, for instance, that a 2006 survey by National Geographic-Roper found that nearly half of young Americans did not think it was necessary to know the location of other countries in which important news was being made. And another one-third felt it was “not at all important” to know a foreign language.

Why is this so concerning? Because …

Fear and Ignorance Go Hand in Hand

The more that you are kept in the dark, either due to your own lack of inquisitiveness or the workings of an unscrupulous industry (such as the food industry that markets junk foods and soda to children as though it is something they should be consuming), the easier you are to manipulate.

And this is where a population of people who do not possess their own knowledge base will easily believe, for instance, that they must quickly get vaccinated to protect themselves against an imaginary pandemic like the bird flu, or that food from their local supermarket is somehow safer than food grown by a farmer down the road.

Obviously, most of you reading this do not fall into this category, as you are actively seeking more knowledge, just by reading this.

Well, it is my goal to help create a fundamental paradigm shift in people’s consciousness about health, and also about empowerment. Because the more you know, the more you will realize that you have the power to impart positive changes in your life, and the lives of those around you.

And, ultimately, living a positive life is really what it is all about.
