Lest We Forget....

C D B? (Old joke).....I'm trying to be "Amusing".

So, then as I see it, we are in the position
that we need to speak for those who are
unable to be heard.  I say this because I once
mistakenly thought that our non-two-legged
relatives were "those who are unable
to speak for themselves"....but see that's not
true, they can, will and do speak for themselves,
but us two-leggeds are making so much noise that we are usually unable/unwilling to hear/listen to what they are telling us.  I know for myself, personally, I still hear them & I listen and I do my best to be of service to them.

I basically don't give a fig for the two-leggeds, our heads are so stuck that I'm thinking it might be too late for us...the greed, the self-absorption, the active ignorance (call it stoopidity), the short sightedness/tunnel vision....The MEMEs. and refusal to take responsibility for anything that does not self gratify.

I mean just look at the trash on the roads, in the parking lots...even @ the Library I work in (an Upper Class Neighborhood)...there is trash all over.  Look at the abandoned animals, children, adults....  Look at the poisons we happily, willingly, purposely consume.....it's no wonder we are sick.

Example..... kidney & liver disease but you Never drink water.....you only ever drink Diet Soda & coffee....so what do you think is going on there?  Is your body trying to tell you something?   You're obese & have diabetes but you insist on Diet Soda (for breakfast even), and you live on junk & fast foods....so what the Hell do you think?

Come on folks...these things are "non-brainers".....You don't have to be a super model in a high fashion magazine, or a celebrity, or in People magazine to be happy.  You need to find balance, get over your childhood (it's called Therapy),  be One with Creator & assimilate into a more natural (Green/Healthy) lifestyle.

Yeah...that's the ticket!   Get a healthy, balanced life or your gonna end up getting off the planet sooner than you expected (which could be a good thing).

So...here's something more to ponder on:

Elder's Meditation of the Day - June 29
"We forget so we consider ourselves superior. But we are, after all, a mere part of the creation and we must consider to understand where we are and we stand somewhere between the mountain and the Ant. Somewhere and only there is a part and parcel of the creation."
--Chief Oren Lyons, ONONDAGA
Every human being gathers information from the center of a circle. If we are not careful, we soon think we are the center of all things. Therefore, it is easy to become self centered. Once we become self centered we start to think we are above all things and therefore superior. But we are really only one part of a great whole. The universe is all connected. Each part is here to do something special and according to its design. We are here to honor and respect the job of each part. We are neither above nor below anything. We need not be ruler over anything, we need only to live in honor and harmony with the system.

Elder's Meditation of the Day - June 2
"The Natural Law is the final and absolute authority governing E Te No Ha, the earth we call our Mother."
--Traditional Circle of Elders
There is no power greater than the Natural Laws. These powers were set up by the Great Spirit in such a way that the human being has no access to it, except by obeying. If we choose not to follow the Natural Laws, our live will be filled with confusion, tension, anxiety and stress. If we poison the Earth, we poison ourselves. If we poison the Water of the Earth, we poison ourselves. As we do to the Earth, we do to ourselves and our children, even the children unborn. May we think about this today and ask ourselves, "Are we holding and acting toward the Mother Earth in a good way?"
Great Spirit, teach me the Natural Laws that govern the Earth

Elder's Meditation of the Day - August 26

"Those who live for one another learn that love is the bond of perfect unity."
--Fools Crow, LAKOTA
To serve each other, to respect each other, to trust each other, to honor each other, to love each other, to cooperate with each other, to care for each other, to forgive one another, to focus on peoples' good, to laugh with one another, to learn from one another, to pray for each other; these are all acts of love. These values and actions will connect us to one another in the Unseen World. Nature is a good example of how we should get along with one another. Watch nature. She is our teacher. Nature lives to give to one another. The insects give to the birds, who give to the four legged, who give to the two legged. The Creator made all things perfect.
Oh Great Spirit, let me serve the people today. Let me see that it is better to give than it is to receive. Be with me today.

See...so it's like that. It isn't just about "ME". it isn't just about "You". It IS about ALL of Us, Together as One. This "Us" includes All of our Relations: the non-two-legged: Our Tall Standing Brothers, the Medicines, All Green ones, Winged ones, Swimming ones, Four-Legged ones, Creepy-Crawlie ones, Stone People....ALL Living Beings. That's the definition of Mi Takuye Oyacin...that is how the ancient ones believed.

If we don't take care of the planet now, what will remain for our Children's children?

No one says you have to like everyone or invite them to your home to stay with you...but You DO have to Love everyone and pray for the best for them. Heck even Jesus (the Jew) taught that.

It is such a waste of time and energy focusing on only our very small & limited selves.

I once had a guy tell me: "You can Pray to Live or Live to Pray. Grandpa lives to pray and look he has a hard life. I pray to live, because I don't want that kind of life he has." I looked at this guy totally amazed....you know he is a "Sundancer" and carries that Cannunpa... So anyways I just said: "Well I Live to Pray, because I Know that as long as I'm praying and living this life like Creator wants, I'm gonna be taken care of."

So for me it's like that...really simple. It takes absolutely Nothing away from me by praying for the best for others. In fact, it only enhances my life, for what we are willing to give away always returns to us 7 fold, no matter what it is. That's just a law of nature.

Think about it...you have nothing to lose but everything to gain. That's how it is when you trust Creator.

Elders' Meditation: August 30th

"I started drinking more seriously, seeking refuge, seeking death actually, from a world that was feeling more and more unnatural to me. Following a painful accident related to drinking, I finally realized that I must decide whether I want to follow my grandparents or truly take up this life. Circumstances that followed led me to choose life."
--Barney Bush, SHAWNEE
My life is run by choices and decisions. Every choice I make today will carry with it the consequences of that choice. Every decision I make today will carry with it the consequences of that decision. The question I will ask myself today is, "Do I want to be happy or do I want to be right?" Which ever one I choose will have a lot to do with the consequences I will experience today. If today was the last day of my life, what choices and what decisions would I make?
Oh Great Spirit, guide my path today and help me see the value of choosing the Red Road

Ok, so like I have given in to being happy....I just kind of keep my mouth shut these days...but I miss telling some people the truth....not that they listen, so not to waste my precious breath...I'll just write it out here.

So, as I read this meditation...I think of the one I've been forced to leave behind. He's been sober 19+ years now...and he works his steps to stay sober. What I see, but do not comment to him on is his behavior otherwise.

When we were still talking to each other he'd mostly sound unhappy, he'd say he didn't want to continue with his soberball group, he didnn't want to go to work (I'm not gonna say exactly about his job, but it's not in an office 9:00-5:00), he spent more time with the group that drinks (which he said wasn't making him happy either). He's not happy with his family (mother & siblings). He wouldn't put time in our friendship/relationship...which caused me to stop making an effort as well. It's just mostly sour grapes, because in my mind, you eventually have to stand up and get on with it...being miserable is a waste of time and a huge waste of life.

I thought A.A. was about giving it up....letting go of the pain & b.s. and getting on with life, as well as getting & staying/living sober. I thought it was about trusting Creator...about working it through and past the misery. I thought it was about letting go and making life better for yourself and your loved ones.

I really thought that the steps were there to help a person get well, to heal the past traumas in their life as well as stay sober. If that is so, how can one actively work the steps and not get well? Not heal? What's the point...if your not gonna do it all the way, why bother to do it at all?

Love: Elders' Meditation: April 18, 2009

Elders' Meditation for April 18, 2009 magnify
"Women know more about love than men do...Love is taking. Love is sharing. Love is learning things about each other."
--Mary Leitka, HOH
The Elders say Mother Earth shares Her special gifts of love with the Women. The Women know about bringing forth life and nurturing their offspring. Through this gift of love the Earth really makes the Woman special. Men should look upon the Woman with a Sacred Eye. She should be respected. The Woman is a role model for love. When the Woman talks, we should listen; when she shares, we should be grateful. We should all learn about each other.
Grandmother, teach me to love with the power of the Woman.

I like today's meditation. Mostly because it points out the true nature of women, and what we are capable of. What, maybe is forgotten about us...

I find, that are certain people that when I'm around that I really want to love...I really reach out to...Those that just being around causes my heart to open. I don't always know what to do with that, because there is that fear & knowing that once I leave...everything will go back to as it was before; the silence, the isolation, the feeling of being forgotten about, & the unfulfilled desire.
And for sure that is anti-love and totally crazy-making.... hopefully one day very soon, we will find ourselves back in the arms of those that truly and deeply love & comfort us and for whom we feel the same.

Song of Life: Elders' Meditation: April 5, 2009

Elders' Meditation for April 05, 2009 magnify
"As we plunge ahead to build empires and race for supremacy we should stop and listen to [the female] song of life. For without the female there is no life."
--Oren R. Lyons, Spokesman, Traditional Circle of Elders
Women are created with the ability to produce life. Women have a special tie to the Earth Mother. They have something in common. They are the source of life. The Earth Mother gives songs to the Woman to sing. These songs are about life, about beauty, about children, about love, about family, about strength, about caring, about nurturing, about forgiveness, about God. The World needs to pay attention and listen to Her. She knows.
Great Spirit, let me listen to Her songs

Teaching Our Children: Elders' Meditation: April 2, 2009

Elders' Meditation magnify
"If anyone has children, they better teach their children to follow the traditions that we're leaving behind because it is later than we think with all that's going on."
--Juanita Centeno, CHUMASH
The habits, attitudes and beliefs that carry the human through the trials of life are developed at a very young age. If we are taught respect at a very young age, the odds are we'll be respectful throughout our whole lives. If we are taught to dance at a young age, we'll dance our whole lives. If we are taught to sing the traditional songs while we are young, we'll sing those songs throughout our whole lives. And who do we drum and sing songs to? Our children. This is how we keep it going.
Great Spirit, today, teach me to teach the children

Our "Elders" are now passing, going back home to Creator. Their time here is over, so what are we going to do? We have taken them so much for granted, we figured that they would be the ones who would teach our children, that we wouldn't have to worry, we could just sit back and take it easy.

Well, guess what? It's time those of us on the Canka Luta Waste get up off our seats and follow in the footsteps of those who are going on. It is up to us to teach our children. It is up to us to take what we have learned (if anything) and pass it down to the younger generations. It is no longer about "us", it is about our children's children, the next 7 generations and our non-two legged relations. It is about the continuance of life on this Unci Maka (Mother Earth) as we know it.

We ARE The Elder's now, and we better wake up soon and figure it all out or step aside. We are now responsible....we can no longer pass off the responsibility of raising capable children. We are the ones to set the example if these ways are to continue in the "Traditional" manner, so that chaos does not ensue....

We are the ones to set the example, not be the exception. We are the ones to be the bright and shining example of what it means to be the solution as opposed to being a part of the problem.

Yeah so it's like that. Mi Takuye Oyacin

Inipi: Elders' Meditation: March 18, 2009

Elder's Meditation for March 18, 2009 magnify
"The sacred fire used to heat the rocks represents the eternal fire that burns at the center of the universe."
--Dr. A.C. Ross (Ehanamani), LAKOTA
Our Sweat Lodge represents the womb of Mother Earth. This is the place of forgiveness. The altar is the place where the Grandfathers are heated. The Sweat Lodge and the altar represent the whole story of the universe. The Sweat Lodge and the ceremonies are sacred. The Great Spirit gave these things to us to help us. He taught us to do the ceremonies in harmony with Mother Earth. We need to know and understand these things.
Great Spirit, let me understand harmony.

So for me....this is what helped me to heal & change my life....the ceremonies and that Cannunpa. All just resonated with my heart, soul & to the core of my very being. The first time I was in Inipi it was like coming "home". The comfort, connectedness, relaxation...that "Ahhhhhhhhhhh" feeling was all there. In these times, it is still what gets me through.

This is also why I keep fire...it's the being one with the Spirits and giving back to them.... It's all about love & being loved, not by the two-leggeds, but my the Spirits and the non-two-leggeds, because you are recognized when you go around them. They know who you are and they respond in a good way.

In that Inipi, all the elements are there; Earth, Water, Fire & Wind....the Four (7) Directions, the Tanka Oyate are all there...they come when we fill that Cannunpa & sing those songs and they hear & answer our prayers (although sometimes the answer is No!). It's life...it's what is REAL...that's what it's all about (as well as the Hokey Pokey).

Tobacco Smoke as a Sacrament: Elder's Meditation of the Day - March 10, 2009

Elders' Meditation for March 11, 2009 magnify

"I know Grandpa told me that to smoke is wakan (holy). The smoke you inhale represents the spirits of everything you put into the pipe. When you breathe in the smoke, you are asking to become one with everything or to become whole."
--Dr. A.C. Ross (Enhanamani), LAKOTA
The smoke allows us to go from the Seen World to the Spirit World. It is in the Spirit World where we are all connected. In this way, we can become one with all things. Our pipe is sacred. We need to be respectful of our medicine. When we smoke the pipe, we need to have good thoughts because these thoughts are shared with the Spirit World. The pipe, the smoke, the spirits, our thoughts-these things are Wakan.
Great Spirit, today, let my thoughts be Wakan.

So, see it's like that, which is on these 3 nights of full moon and 3 nights of new moon, I roll a smoke and go out in the moonlight and sit and pray for wicosin ni wioki mi takuye oyacin (Health & Help for All My Relations). Why I talk to Creator, the Spirit Keepers of the Four (6) Directions and give thanks for: my life; life on this Unci Maka; peace on earth; food, clothing & shelter for everyone; for healling the heart of my loved one(s); healing the abuse that both the vicitims & the perpetrators have suffered...and on & on & on like that.

I want it all to be balanced...to be good, to be healthy...to be at love & peace w/ Creator and for all the non-two legged realatives of ours as well.

I guess you can say I Want It ALL....and I believe that it can be so, which is why I'll Never Give Up...why each & every day I'll continue to give thanks and talk to Creator on behalf of All My Relations.

Speaking With Our Heart: E;ders' Meditation: March 3, 2009

Elders' Meditation for March 03, 2009 magnify
".the voice and the heart are not working together."
--Barney Bush, SHAWNEE
We can say any words we want with our voice but we cannot hide the true meaning and the true spirit behind the words. The true meaning is always understood. The voice is heard in the physical world, but the meaning is transmitted in the spiritual world. if our voice says one thing but the heart is saying something else, it's the something else that is heard. It is said that the truth will set you free. Reaching the truth means your voice and your words will be in alignment with the heart.
Great Spirit, let my tongue, speak the truth today.

It's amazing how true this is in everyday life...there are so many people who are "nice and smiling" when they talk to you, but you know they have ulterior motives.... It's like working with a pack of hyenas.

Then there are those, who can not even say what is in their hearts...they can't talk about matters of the heart...they hide in silence, they suffer in silence, and they allow love to pass them by.

We have to be open hearted, we have to come from love..we have to remember we are all interconnected. When we hide our love, when we hide our hearts, not only do we ourselves suffer, but so does everyone we come in contact with and the people they come in contact with...and so on...it's a chain....

This is something I am working on, because when I "see" peoples motives (and I do), I try and protect myself by closing my heart...and in the end I hurt myself.

Power of Our Thoughts: Elders' Meditation: March 7, 2009

Elders' Meditation for March 07, 2009 magnify
"We are responsible for the condition of the Earth. We are the ones who are responsible and we can change that. If we wake up, it is possible to change the energy. It is possible to change everything."
--Hunbatz Men, MAYAN
The environment we want outside will be created by the mental pictures we have inside out heads. We must have the right environmental picture as well as the right values. These values will give the mental picture its true meaning. If we respected Mother Earth, we would not throw garbage on Her, nor would we put poison in Her. We would not misuse Her in any way. Mother Earth is like She is today because of the mental pictures of previous generations as well as the mental pictures of our own generation. If we want the environment to change, each individual must change their mental picture. "As within, so without."
Great Spirit, today, let me be alert to Your guiding voice.

Nature is the Ultimate Teacher: Elders' Meditation: March 1, 2009

Elders' Meditation for March 01, 2009 magnify
"Ultimately, nature will do the teaching."
--Tom Porter, MOHAWK
There are things man has control over, and there are things man does not have control over. No matter how smart we get, whether it be in technology or science, there are things we will never control. The Great Spirit carefully protected and hid the control over certain things in the Unseen World. There are forces in the Unseen World that make sure humans don't mess things up. The bottom line is, no matter what we do, nature will have the last say. Nature is the teacher, we are the students. May we honor and respect our teacher.
Great Spirit, today, help me to live in harmony with people, principles, and life.

Laughter is Good Medicine: Elders' Meditation: February 19, 2009

Elders' Meditation for February 19, 2009 magnify
"laughter is a necessity in life that does not cost much, and the Old Ones say that one of the greatest healing powers in our life is the ability to laugh."
--Larry P. Aitken, CHIPPEWA
Laughter is a good stress eliminator. Laughter causes healing powers to be distributed through our bodies. Laughter helps heal relationships that are having problems. Laughter can change other people. Laughter can heal the sick. Laughter is spiritual. One of the greatest gifts among Indian people has been our ability to laugh. Humor is natural to Indian people. Sometimes the only thing left to do is laugh.
Great Spirit, allow me to laugh when times get tough

So there are these two chickens...and one says to the other "Why did the man cross the street?" And the other one says "I don't know. Why do men do anything?"

What do Nebraska, Ford Motor Co. & a penny all have in common? "They all have a Lincoln"

Chickens in Libraries
A chicken walks into the library. It goes up to the circulation desk and says: "book, bok, bok, boook".
The librarian hands the chicken a book. It tucks it under his wing and runs out. A while later, the chicken runs back in, throws the first book into the return bin and goes back to the librarian saying: "book, bok, bok, bok, boook". Again the librarian gives it a book, and the chicken runs out. The librarian shakes her head.
Within a few minutes, the chicken is back, returns the book and starts all over again: "boook, book, bok bok boook". The librarian gives him yet a third book, but this time as the chicken is running out the door, she follows it.
The chicken runs down the street, through the park and down to the riverbank. There, sitting on a lily pad is a big, green frog. The chicken holds up the book and shows it to the frog, saying: "Book, bok, bok, boook". The frog blinks, and croaks: "read-it, read-it, read-it".

Truth: Elders' Meditation: February 2, 2009

Elders' Meditation for February 02, 2009 magnify
"You can't just sit down and talk about the truth. It doesn't work that way. You have to live it and be part of it and you might get to know it."
--Rolling Thunder, CHEROKEE
We all read books that have much information in them. Often we pick up on little sayings that we remember. Inside of us is the little owl, the owl of knowing. It talks to us- guiding us and nurturing us. Often when we get information, it's hard to live by, but it's easy to talk about. It's living the Red Road that counts-Walk the Talk. If we really want freedom in our lives, if we really want to be happy, if we really want to have peace of mind, it's the truth we must seek.
My Creator, help me in my search for the truth today.

So, for me, it's like this way... You can lie to those you come in contact with, and they will Never (maybe) know. You can lie to yourself, but eventually those lies will turn on you and bite yer bum...but you Can NOT lie to Creator.

Lying takes so very much energy, and then you have to remember whom you told what... and your life it becomes all twisted and like a nightmare.

Lying, it causes so very much hurt, to others and to yourself. It can destroy you and your loved ones and your relationships with others.

Truth, when presented in a brutal manner can hurt as well, as can the absence of words, those things hidden by silence and/or omission.....but honesty, presented w/ empathy and caring for another person's feelings... well it is a healing thing.

We owe it to ourselves, our loved ones and the world at large to be honest in our lives. Everything would be so much easier if the lies ended.

360: Healing Ourselves-Elders' Meditation: January 20, 2009

Elders' Meditation January 20, 2009 magnify
"Heal yourself-your physical and spiritual bodies. Regenerate yourself with light, and then help those who have poverty of the soul. Return to the inner spirit, which we have abandoned while looking elsewhere for happiness."
--Willaru Huayta, QUECHUA NATION, PERU
It is difficult to look inside ourselves, especially when we see conflict or confusion. During times of conflict we need to realize that we are talking to ourselves about our thoughts. This conversation is printing in our subconscious and forming our beliefs. During times of conflict we need to ask the spirit to control our self-talk. Only thorough finding that inner place and going there during troubled times will we ever find happiness.
Great Spirit, You are my peace and you dwell within me. Let me look for You within myself.

I'm reading this and what I'm seeing with some of my loved one's is that even thought they are "Friends of Bill W" and they remain sober, there isn't a whole lot of emotional self healing going on. It seems as if the pain of looking within at the scars of childhood & broken relationships and healing is too much, it's crippling.

But I know, it takes courage to heal and that it isn't shameful nor weak to ask for help, rather it takes an extremely strong, intelligent and aware person to ask for help and search for healing. I also know, that a person is not going to heal until the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of changing.

360: Choices-Elders' Meditation: January 3, 2009

Elders' Meditation for January 03, 2009 magnify
"We don't have to say or think what we don't wish to. We have a choice in those things, and we have to realize that and practice using that choice."
--Rolling Thunder, CHEROKEE
Having choices makes us fully accountable. No one can make us think anything we don't want to think. No one can determine our behavior and how we act. It's not what's going on but how we look at what's going on. If someone does something and we get upset, we can change how we look at it any time we want. We can tell ourselves in the morning that the day is going to be beautiful and that we have expectations that great things will happen. Doing this daily sets our mind to look for the joy and the excitement of each day.
Great Spirit, help me to choose my thoughts with Your wisdom.

Yeah, so see..it's all up to ourselves...it's our attitudes....

What do we want in our lives? What do we want for ourselves? What do we want for our children & grandchildren? Well, it's time to stand up and take responsibility.... Do we want to get "better" or do we want to get "Well"? There is a huge difference in getting better and getting well.

Therefore No MORE Stinkin' Thinkin'!

360: Equality-Elders' Meditation: December 15, 2008

Elder's Meditation of the Day - December 15 magnify

"People are equal partners with the plants and animals, not their masters who exploit them."
--Haida Gwaii, Traditional Circle of Elders
As human beings, we are not above anything nor are we below anything. Because of being equal, we need to discuss a little about the value of respect. Not just respect when it comes to human beings, but respect when it comes to everything. We are not masters over things; we are caretakers for the Great Spirit. We need to treat all things with respect.

Great Spirit, let me accept and see all things as equal.

There is an ongoing theme with these past three meditations......It's like I read once a very long time ago in the bible "man was given 'dominion' over the animals" Not Domination...dominion is to care take...domination is ruination. We have to respect all living beings...that includes the plants, trees, animals, minerals...all non-two legged beings.

Think of it this way: If all the humans were to get off the earth tomorrow...the wild ones as well as the green ones would still survive... However, should all the non-two leggeds and green ones perish tomorrow, well we two-leggeds wouldn't be able to make it at all. So in the scheme of things it seems as we are the lowest of the living beings. Hmm...just food for thought!

360: Helping Out-Elders' Meditation: December 10, 2008

Elder's Meditation of the Day - December 10 magnify

"Come forward and join hands with us in this great work for the Creator."
--Traditional Circle of Elders, NORTHERN CHEYENNE
The Elders have spent years learning to pray and communicate with the Great Spirit. Their job is to pass this knowledge onto the young people. The Elders have told us we are now in a great time of healing. The Creator is guiding them to help the young people figure this out. We must get involved and participate. We should pray and see what it is the Great Spirit wants us to do. We need to sacrifice our time to help the people and to be of maximum use to the Creator. Every person is needed to accomplish this great healing.
Creator, whisper what You want me to do.

I was on my way to Mexico to do some sacred work, and these two beautiful children were seated in front of me on the plane...we played and sang, and made finger-plays. It was so awesome....and it's time you know, for the new Elders to step up to the plate and teach the children. Our Elders are on their way back to Creator...it's up to those of us who are now the "Elders" to fix the messy minds we have created in our children.... Raising Children is NOT a Democratic process....we need to love our children & grandchildren, but we must do so with a firm yet loving touch. It's about the good of the world and All Our Relations, not just for our immediate family. It's about teaching the natural laws and the way of balance if we are to survive.

360: Natural Law-Elders' Meditation: December 10, 2008

Elder's Meditation of the Day - December 9 magnify

"The Natural Law will prevail regardless of man-made laws, tribunals and governments."
--Traditional Circle of Elders, NAVAJO-HOPI Joint Use Area
The Great Spirit made Laws by which Man needs to live. These Laws are just and are about living in harmony. Man has passed many laws that say it is okay to do things. Many of these man-made laws are out of harmony with the Laws of the Great Spirit. These man-made laws will cause trouble for the human being if they are out of harmony with the Laws of the Creator.
Great Spirit, teach me Your Laws

So...when was the last time anyone looked at the weather, the increased number of earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and volcanoes that are taking place these days? I think we are out of balance now, and we better get on the stick and clean up our act, or bend over & kiss out butts goodbye!

360: Elders' Meditation: December 9, 2008

Elder's Meditation for December 09, 2008 magnify
"We as men should not fear our mates; we should listen to their counsel."
--Oren R. Lyons, Spokesman, Traditional Circle of Elders
The Elders say the men should look at women in a sacred way. The men should never put women down or shame them in any way. When we have problems, we should seek their counsel. We should share with them openly. A woman has intuitive thought. She has access to another system of knowledge that few men develop. She can help us understand. We must treat her in a good way.
Great Spirit, let me look upon the woman in a good way.

You know this is interesting.......The man I love, he has major relationship issues, that go back to his own insecurities, hurt, anger & bitterness. Although he is able to articulate the "bitterness", he can't seem to get out of the rut and get into healing. So, because he doesn't ask me, I don't usually tell him what it is I "know". There is so much of his distress that I understand, so much similar I have gone through myself.....but he prefers to sit in his cave and brood. I haven't given up, I just let him alone and go about my life. When he reaches for me I am there...otherwise I'm out and about, but always I am with him in thought & heart...and prayers.

"Someone must speak for them. I do not see a delegation for the four footed. I see no seat for eagles. We forget and we consider ourselves superior, but we are after all a mere part of the Creation."
--Oren Lyons, ONONDAGA
Whenever we make decisions, we need to look around and see who would be affected by them. If we change the course of a river , who, what will be affected? If we put poison on the gardens, who, what will be affected? If wee cut the trees and too many are cut, who, what will be affected? We need to become aware of the consequences of our actions. We need to pay attention to our thoughts. We are accountable to our children to leave the Earth in good shape.
