Sober Soft Ball

Sober Ball Softball magnify
I had the pleasure of attending an A.A. sponsored sober ball softball tournamnet last Sunday.

The one I love was pitching, and he is good at it. But it was very interesting, because the pitcher does not pitch to strike the batter out as in baseball, and most batters get on base unless they hit a fly or are slow runners.

The games are only played for one hour, because with as many of the batters getting on base, they'd never finish a nine inning game. I found out that the rules are different too, like when you come up to bat there is already 1 walk & 1 strike counted...and something called 1-Up, as I understood it if my team hits a home run it's fine, but if we hit a second one before the next team has hit one, then we have an out on our second.

After thinking about the games, I figured out that the games have to be won on fielding, so that if you do not have a good fielding team, you're gonna lose....the score of one of the games was 40+ to 28....or close to that anyways. Some of the teams were really good and they are serious about winning.

I honestly do not know too much about A.A., but these softball leagues are a good place to meet people with similar interests and build a good community foundation based on like beliefs and life issues. Given that, I am now perusing the "Big Book" so I can learn more about the program.

I am also trying to see where my Native spiritual beliefs fit in...because I so do not believe in Hell or anything remotely close to religious dogma, and I have yet to see any of those mentioned in the Big Book's beliefs.

Anyways, I had a lovely day, I enjoyed the games, I met new people, and I am going to recommend this website (which is under construction) to those of you out there who are interested in A.A. sponsored softball & golf.
