Data reveals that a record number of whales were entangled in fishing gear off the U.S. Pacific coast in 2014, and they are being reported at an even faster rate this year. Entanglements can lead to serioushealth problems, and slow and drawn out deaths. We have a responsibility to act quickly to prevent more whales from getting tangled up in fishing gear- that’s why we’re requesting that the state work with conservation groups and the fishing industry to make commonsense changes to fishing practices that would protect both whales and fishermen.
