GMO Forests?

The USDA wants to legalize the first-ever genetically engineered forest tree to be commercially grown in the U.S. They are accepting comments until July 5th. IEN, Global Justice Ecology Project, BioFuel Watch and others are working together to stop this disaster in the making!
If approved, industrial GE eucalyptus tree plantations will destroy biodiverse forests, deplete fresh water, endanger wildlife and songbirds and contribute to wildfires.

Just last month in Portugal, catastrophic firestorms that killed dozens were  blamed on vast eucalyptus plantations--well-known for being extremely flammable and depleting ground water.  Combined with a heat wave, they created the perfect setting for wildfire.

Already the US South is experiencing frequent droughts and heat waves. GE eucalyptus plantations could set the stage for wildfire disaster.

Sincerely,

Anne Petermann
Executive Director

P.S. Thank you for taking action to protect our forests and communities from the devastation of GE tree plantations.
